Fool Bull
Tatanka Witko
Brule Sioux
Approx. 1844 to 1909
Fool Bull also known as Tatanka Witko was a Brule Sioux medicine man and a Warrior.
A medicine man is a traditional healer and spiritual leader who serves a community of indigenous people of the Americas. Individual cultures have their own names, in their respective indigenous languages, for the spiritual healers and ceremonial leaders in their particular cultures.
Fool Bull was also a known to be a fierce warrior.
He fought in the famous “Battle of the Little Big Horn”. He fought for his people and for the freedom of his nation, along side Crazy Horse and many other brave warriors.
Fool Bull was from the Brule Sioux Tribe. One of seven branches (sometimes called “sub-tribes”) of the Lakota American Indian people. Brule means “burnt”.
After the Indian wars of the plains, Fool Bull lived his life on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota. It is the home of the Upper Brule Sioux Nation. Fool Bull died in 1909.
Not much is know about his life.
